Leo
Lion is his name,
Life’s strong golden caress,
Strength before the flame,
Created out of loves happiness.
Before he was whole they called him
blue,
A teddy rescued from the grave,
But he is of a golden hew,
A Leone bold and brave.
I knew him long before he was on
Earth,
A long-long time away,
Saw him in his mother’s search,
Of times hazardous and grey.
I heard him in his father’s voice,
A mellow kind of stew,
Of honesty earnesty and coarse,
Sounds of life beginning anew.
I held him gently to my heart,
Trying to find words to say,
They all seemed so small and tart,
I failed and then I turned away.
For how does one explain?
About a life so new,
A miracle born from life’s pain,
A golden shaft of dew.
