Homosexuality - God’s/Natures Gift to Humanity

Homosexuality - God’s/Natures Gift to Humanity

It’s is an amazing fact that somewhere from ten to twenty percent of the male population of any given society is homosexual (only speaking male homosexuality here) or inclined that way. From an evolutionary viewpoint it seems counter intuitive that males who in the normal course of events over time immemorial have not reproduced or had lower off spring then heterosexual men are such a large percentage of the population.

It is a given that the struggle to be male is a profound and complicated one as the basic genome type is female and the biological struggle to be masculine is intense. It is a complex field of genetics, adaption and natural selection. Compounded by the fact that our natures are convergent blends of the anima and animus.

The other factor here of course is that evolution through natural and sexual selection is a zero sum game. It is neither right nor wrong-it just is. If a trait is a benefit to the species then it will survive, those traits will be passed on by gene replication and allele interaction, again it is complex and variable thing. But genetic studies seem to show that some relations sharing similar genes are more inclined to be homosexual.

The homosexual uncle who takes care of his nieces and nephews and has the resources, time and inclination is enhancing his prospect of passing on his genes by the fact that they share twenty five percent of his genes in random order. Also primitive, natural and tribal societies from long ago most probably had a different attitude to homosexuality than we have developed now.

That scene in the film Little Big Man sums up the Cheyenne American Indians attitude to homosexuality:

Little Horse: [an obviously homosexual Indian approaches Jack] Little Big Man! You have returned. Don't you remember me? That hurts me deep in my heart.

Jack Crabb: [voiceover] It was Little Horse; the boy who wouldn't go on the raid against the Pawnee. He had become a "heemanee" for which there ain't no English word. And he was a good one, too. The Human Beings thought a lot of him.

All this means of course that homosexuality far from being abnormal as some would assert through their belief systems or dogmas (Moralistic Fallacy) is as natural as heterosexuality. The fact that homosexuals are by and large discriminated against in modern society is a product more I think of our cultural, religious and historical biases and our tendency to dislike any who are different rather than to any reasoned approach.

History is full of famous and meritorious homosexuals:

There are many more and the “Ordinary Homosexuals” that add to our world and society with dynamism and flair as they go about their lives are not something to be fearful of but rather to be thankful for.

So thank you.

Definition: An allele is an alternative form of a gene (one member of a pair) that is located at a specific position on a specific chromosome. These DNA codings determine distinct traits that can be passed on from parents to offspring. The process by which alleles are transmitted was discovered by Gregor Mendel and formulated in what is known as Mendel's law of segregation.
