In my book (A Letter To My Daughters) I say this ‘Love or the lack of it permeates us and our universe making us what we are. Love is like a rainbow it is a complex
thing, and emotions come in many colours.’
Over the last few years I have often pondered on the
complexity of 'Love' this paradox and why we are meant to love? Why is it that we seem to
be programmed to Love? With ‘the love’ I also ponder on the great depth of
feelings and emotions unleashed by love. The sheer destructiveness that people ‘in
love’ unleash upon the world and themselves. I call it ‘The Agony of Love”.
As Shakespeare said ‘The course of true love never did
run smooth’ (Hamlet Act 1 Scene 1)
Also from my book I give some inkling of the sensation
or experience of love. ‘Think of the wording; falling in love, she fell in
love, she fell head over heels for him, she was mad for him, she was crazy for
him, she nearly wet her pants when she saw him…’
It seems when love is new and sometimes not so new we
are out of control, we are like a guided missile centring on our target without
the guidance.
Fact;
Did you know that Love is the most word that is GOOGLED!

If you want a brief explanation on Love from different
perspectives this is a great article it covers; Biology, Psychotherapy,
Philosophy, Romantic Novelist, and Religious.
Here are some quotes:
‘Love is a powerful neurological condition…’
‘Love can be viewed as a survival tool…’
‘Eros is about sexual passion and desire –unless it
morphs into the deeper shades of love (philia, pragma) it will burn itself out…’
‘Love is not one thing…’
‘You exist within it, (love) almost unnoticing…’
‘Love drives all great stories…’
‘Love is more easily experienced than defined…’
“The paradox of Love is that it is supremely free yet
attaches us with bonds stronger than death…’
There are thousands of articles and blogs on love, as
I said it is the most Googled word on the planet. It shapes and moulds us into
what we are whether this is pretty or not is a matter of circumstance. I have a
go at it in A Letter to My Daughters;
‘Sex seems simple enough, boy meets girl, they fall in
lust/ love… but what a tangle we get into. Before we get too far into sex let
me make one thing absolutely clear.
You can have one without the other, but to have both
together is by far the best way to live...’
In my book I try to come to grips with this conundrum
of life which leads us to the Mountain of Joy but also to the Valley of Despair.
I explain how I have coped with this through a very simple mechanism and it is
simply this;
‘Love is a
decision’
We all need at some point
in life to come to this realisation some do it without realising what they are
doing they are blessed. But to us lesser mortals conscious effort is needed to Love everywhere and constantly we must decide to love otherwise the beautiful
side of life and love will become an Agony impacting on and all around us
including those whom ‘we love most.’
The Agony of Love not only undone Romeo and Juliet it undoes us every
day but it does not have to -Decide to
Love and live a life that is full!
A Time For Us from the
Movie Romeo and Juliet 1968 captures The
Agony of Love.
