The Lizards of Gotham

The Lizards of Gotham
The lizards of Gotham.[i]  are dangerous creatures who live in a sun of their own choosing, watching and waiting, preying and swaying in the breeze of an indolent life. A life far removed from the everyday cares and strivings of a "good society."

Gotham Lizards always have an opinion, from their lofty viewpoints they see far and wide, they know what ails the world and do not mind telling you how to fix it.

You will never find Gotham Lizards in the hallways of responsibility, the avenues of volunteerism, the engines of charity or the wards of care.

You will often find them in the sloth of inheritance, the industry of self-interest, the commerce of righteousness and the mirror of narcissism.

The amazing thing about Gotham Lizards is they seem to be multiplying at a horrible rate. Gotham city attracts and holds them like moths to a flame, like bees to a honeypot.

They can have a bit of the gecko in them and pretend to be what they are not. Caring, generous, involved! They hover around "good people groups" but only to seem to be doing something or to be seen. In fact they may in a un-lizard like way spend a great deal of energy seeming to do when they are not doing anything at all.

It is because of the Lizards that Gotham city has become like it is now. A stranger to the very people who live in it. Owned by those who do not live there, governed by strangers, charlatans and fools. Obsessed with celebrity and glamour, abhorring difference and
disadvantage, and unable to face a future that does not agree with their version of it.

Ah! We all have a bit of the Lizard in us, it is a fact! The reality that our world has become a Gotham City is a sadness. It does not have to be so! But then are we brave enough to come in from the sunshine to face the harsh realities of the shadows and put our shoulder to the wheels of responsibility, good citizenship and caring?

This blog has been inspired by Steve Mosby's dark novel "The Cutting Crew" and a tragic scene in it. Great read thanks Steve.

"I would understand later that I was seeing group denial. The inability of any single person to take action resulting in nobody doing anything at all."

Note:  I love lizards! They are so, efficient laying in the sun using solar power to warm themselves, needing only ten percent of the food we mammals need. Why don't they rule the world like they once did?

[i] Gotham-I am using Gotham as an analogy to our places of habitation today.
