Today running around the house, garden, street, doing things in a rush, including talking. I was taught a couple of home truths.
From Fred the Kenyan organiser of World Youth International who has been staying with us and with whom daughter Katy (nurse extrordinaire) has worked with in Kenya.
Talking to him in the garden I wa sstruck by his quiet inquring questions and his considered answers.
Lesson 1. Be an Iceberg. Consider and prepare much before talking (or writing). What you hear or see should only be the end result of careful consideration, preperation and research. In other words the part of the iceberg you see is supported by the ninety percent of the iceberg you do not see. This is the same for any good work of endeavour.
Of Flowers.
Maureen buys these flowers which sit on the table or mantle piece for days before opening. She sets them up beautifully and they are wonderful the way they open. I asked her what they were. 'They are Lily's and they need the warmth of the house to open and can take quite a while.'
Beauty is in the journey of creation as well as in the creation itself. This is the same for any good work of endeavour.
When I am writing in the loneliness of my mind and the blank page, I can do no better then to think of Icebergs and Flowers.
