Chaos If you want to understand the nature of men
then look to where there has been total chaos and anarchy. If there is no order
or morality, if law breaks down total chaos ensues, men behave in the brutal
barbarity reminiscent of our evolutionary past. This is what happens in the
case of war and especially civil war. Read any account of war or civil strife
and you will see this.
In the 1980s war in Uganda it has been reported that up to
70% of women in some areas were raped. In the 1971 war in Bangladesh over 250,000
women were raped resulting in over 25, 000 pregnancies. In the 1990s war in the
former Yugoslavia over 90% of the casualties were civilians. Every war where
there is a breakdown in order innocent people mostly women and children are the
victims[i]
men are normally the perpetrators.
We are Psychological
Fossils. Males by evolutionary
adaption are drawn to the females he thinks will be able to reproduce, young, good
complexion, 16-28yrs, fertile. He is governed by basic desires and aversions
which are traits embedded in him long ago.
We are the psychological fossils of our ancestors, the males’ desire for
sex with highly fertile women runs directly against the prospect for a lifelong
monogamous faithful marriage. To be
bluntly honest, as a man's wife ages and her fertility declines, his eyes may
start to wander to younger women who are still in their prime reproductive time
window. Often the reproductive value of
his wife is depreciating at the very time his own income, power and status and
thus his attractiveness to other women may be peaking.
War Without
Casualties In
most societies we substitute war or practise for it with sporting contests
where the two sides compete without casualties. In the traditional view of
society men faced out; protection, hunting, and warfare. Women faced in; home,
childcare and nurturing. This is of course is being challenged by feminism, but
it is still a strong reflection of the values in our society. Man as the impregnator,
the provider and the protector lives in a hazardous world. To train him for
these hazards society had to invent activities which would have a relatively
low attrition rate, but would provide incentive enough for him to perform as on
a battlefield. Thus sport was invented or evolved. Team sports mimic a horrific
aspect of human nature, the thrill of
us versus them of tribal warfare. Team
sports manage to successfully simulate the primal joy of victory or the agony
of defeat but without anyone actually being killed.
The language of sport is identical with the language of war:
Discipline, co-operation, team play, aggression, persistence, endurance and so
on. The dictum about turning men into boys is really about turning men into
soldiers. Also the same blind fanaticism http://www.sgiquarterly.org/feature2006Jly-2.html
that sees the people of nations collide in war is on display down at the local
oval or park every day of the week.
Men Behaving badly If for whatever reason a male does not
recognise your choice or does not respect you and tries to control you by vice,
force, manipulation or other, then he is to be condemned by all. Men behaving
badly are not an option for you and should not be for any woman. But strangely
some women and society’s seem to put up with men behaving badly. This is
normally a cultural or inherited phenomenon.
It is about Control It is all about control the man
wanting to control the situation and you. In fact most cases of bullying and
abuse (between anyone) is about control. For the abusive man, bigger, stronger,
more aggressive than his partner it is a given if the situation arises that he
will use these attributes for violence or coercion. If a man is violent to
other people he will be more likely to be violent to you.
To answer the original question; Is that man you know a potential monster?
Answer Yes and No.
Look on the link and you will find most of the war criminals were ordinary men before they became monsters.
But then most men are decent human beings in the normal run of things. But when life is not normal that is when things may change.

Domestic violence is a crime against women; not a god given right, nor part of a rite of passage for men. It is an indefensible act.
