To Give Until it Hurts

To Give until it Hurts

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their persistence and determination.

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their detachment and unworldliness.

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their goodness and compassion.

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their expertise and proficiency.

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their modesty and sincerity.

Sometimes we meet a person who inspires us by their guts and determination.

When this someone is your daughter then you are not only inspired you are knocked over.

Katy Condliffe was born thirty years ago, the youngest of four daughters she came in a hurry being born at home, and (I delivered her).

From day one she was a good baby and a good kid, the things that stick in my mind was the determination to get things done and the no nonsense practical approach she took to everything.

She did well at school not brilliantly but well, she was social but not gregarious. Loyalty to her friends and family was always there.

From very early on she always stated that she wanted to do nursing, she play acted this out and her nature propelled her toward it.

She graduated with a double certificate in midwifery, later on she did another certificate in trauma and emergency nursing.

Katy worked at major hospitals and also some smaller ones but she liked to be where something was happening. Ward nursing was not her cup of tea.

Katy volunteered early for The Islands of Northern Australia in her training days, and then early in her nursing days she went to New Guinea to work in the Highlands as a volunteer. She revelled in this type of work.

Katy has over the last few years completed trips to Kenya as a volunteer working in remote places near Lake Victoria. Her stories of these trips are both sad and inspiring.

Katie’s latest venture and her idea is to lead a group of volunteer nurses and paramedics to Kenya to work in a new hospital and do health clinics in remote villages. She heads off soon to complete this task she will be gone for three months.

Katie Condliffe is my daughter but she is also one of the most beautiful and inspiring people I have ever met. She gives until it hurts!
