What is it about Lust?
Editing my new manusript I came across Lust-I mean the section on Lust! It got me wondering why?
Is it neccesary as a feeling for us humans?
Lust is the engine that gets you going, nature’s way of moving the machinery of procreation. Like any feeling it is natural and neither right nor wrong. Lust can take many forms but in the sexual realm it is normally the overwhelming desire to be with someone, to have sex with them. It is above all an intense physical reaction setting off in us the triggers to sexual reception and acceptance. When men see beautiful women their arousal is often instant as men are geared in a visual plain to sexual markers and signals. The booming porn industry for men is mainly visual.
Women may be attracted by the physical beauty of a man as well but often they will be attracted by power, wealth , money, in fact anything that may make them secure. The porn industry for women is related to curiosity, to create arousal, performance indicators. Women enjoy a curve of arousal and like to understand why people are having sex and how they get turned on. It seems to be much more complex for women.
Lust is all about me, for most of us after the strong periods of arousal, gratification and consummation fades it has to be replaced by something else. There is nothing wrong with this; there is nothing better than two persons gratifying themselves in a sexual manner. It is how we were meant to be, we are sexual beings after all and to satisfy each other in this way is fantastic. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this, I repeat; there is absolutely nothing wrong with us satisfying ourselves sexually with another person it is fantastic and ordained by God/Nature. But it will not last, gratification is fine but it will not last, it is a feeling. If it did last sex workers would be out of business, and I do not see that happening soon. They are in the business of lust and gratification, they are not the oldest profession for nothing and they will most definitely be the longest lasting. They provide an essential service in our society.
Time for a joke:
Said the sex worker to the customer:
“It’s a business doing pleasure with you”
As she accepted payment for her services.
If you look up the evolutionary reasoning for lust it comes down ton hormones and receptors in the brain reacting so that we will mate and produce offspring.
There are also different chemicals and receptors for attachment, parenting, and so on.
In the human this is overlayed by social and cultural pressures. It is one of the seven deadly sins in the christian hierarchy of evil and so has bad name.
Lust could also be considered a sin because Homo sapiens
were traditionally polygamous, males indulging in many female partners. From an
evolutionary position, polygamy is advantageous because whilst a man can produce
many children in a lifetime, a woman is constrained by gestation time. An excess
of lust could lead to a high ranking male obtaining too many wives, leaving few
for his tribe mates, as humans are half male and half female. Therefore, the
next generation would be mainly related to one male, causing a genetic
bottleneck and decreasing the gene pool. Species with a smaller gene pool are
far more vulnerably to genetic diseases. Also, all individuals will have similar
immune systems, so a disease capable of killing one individual would kill many,
if not all, of the tribe.
There are also ways lust as a sin may have evolved
socially. For example, if a man was lusting after the wife of another (probably
higher ranking) man, this would cause tension within the tribe, fights may break
out and the luster would be expelled or even killed. Also, specifically for men
who spend 3 hours every day thinking about sex, excessive lust could act as a
distraction from everyday chores.
It is obvious that society had to control it when it became organised that is why religion was invented.
But I will say again I believe it is neither right or wrong it is a natural feeling. Like all feelings it is how you use it that is the key.
